The European Symbolic Orchestra is an extended international version of the Slovenian-based Symbolic Orchestra. Its founder Bojan Cvetrežnik (SLO) has invited classically trained professional performers of the bow string instruments from 15 European countries to produce and perform the brightest possible spectrum of European's violin music. They believe it is hard to find a better symbol of European diversity than the violin. The idea is that thousands of different violin styles in traditional music are not at all separated from the world of classical, progressive or jazz music. The musicians are improvisers, composers and travelling researchers and over 100 of them have already performed with Symbolic Orchestra on different occasions, from street performances to posh concert halls. The XXLive production presented on this album features Jean-Christophe Gairard (FRA), Emillio Castiello (FRA), Aritmija (SLO), Ida Meidell Blylod (SWE) and the BBC world music award winners - Terrafolk (SLO). Unlike the previous album - XXSilent - which includes exclusively composed music, the XXLive production is flirting with different temperament and is oriented towards a more energetic expression of folk music.
